What we do
Six categories of Warwick gas work
Generator gas hookup
Sized for whole-home backup load. Coordinates with electrician on transfer switch and concrete pad placement.
New appliance line runs
Range, dryer, fireplace, pool heater, outdoor grill. Black iron or CSST as the run dictates, bonded to house electrical per RI code.
Leak detection (suspected)
Combustible gas detector + soap test on every joint. Pressure-test the entire system to isolate the leak section.
Propane-to-natural-gas conversion
Coordinate meter install with Rhode Island Energy, swap appliance orifices, abandon propane tank with permit.
Old black-iron repair
Joint failures on 80s-90s conversions. Replace the affected branch and pressure-test before restoring service.
Gas piping for kitchen remodel
Re-route during demo, upsize for new appliance load, permit and final inspection.
If you suspect a leak
Four-step protocol — in order
Important: National Grid is the FIRST call, not us. They have the authority to shut off service at the curb. We handle in-house piping after the leak is contained.
1
If you smell gas, leave first
Don't flip switches, don't use the phone inside. Get out.
2
Call National Grid: 800-640-1595
They'll dispatch a crew to the curb to shut off service if needed. This is the FIRST call.
3
Then call us
Once the leak is contained at the meter, we diagnose the in-house piping. We don't replace the National Grid step — we follow it.
4
Don't re-enter until cleared
Wait for National Grid's OK before going back inside. They'll vent the structure.
RI gas code
What's required on every Warwick gas job
Code items below are non-negotiable. We bring older Warwick installs up to current code on any job we touch — included in the price, not an upcharge.
RI Master Plumber license required
All gas work in RI requires a licensed Master Plumber with gas endorsement. We carry both.
Permits + inspection on every job
Warwick building department permits any gas work over an appliance swap. Final pressure-test inspection before service is restored.
CSST bonding to house electrical
Modern code requires CSST (yellow flexible gas line) be bonded to the home's electrical grounding system. Common finding on older Warwick homes — we bring it up to code during any gas work we touch.
Sediment trap on every appliance
Drip leg / sediment trap before each appliance gas valve. Older installs often skip this — we add them while we're in there.
Gas service FAQ — Warwick
Do you install gas lines for whole-home generators in Warwick?+
Yes — and demand has climbed after the last few nor'easters. Outages along Greenwich Bay can run for days. We size the gas line for both the generator load and any future kitchen, pool-heater, or fire-pit additions, so you're not re-running it in two years. All work permitted and pressure-tested per RI code.
How do you detect gas leaks in older Warwick black-iron systems?+
Modern combustible gas detectors plus soap test on every joint. Older Warwick homes that converted from oil to gas in the 80s-90s often have black-iron joints that have loosened or pitted over four decades — the smell test isn't enough. We pressure-test the whole system, not just the appliance the call is about.
Is propane to natural gas conversion worth it in Warwick?+
Math typically works as natural gas mains have extended into more Warwick streets. Natural gas runs 30-40% cheaper than propane per BTU. We coordinate the appliance orifice swaps, the meter installation with Rhode Island Energy, and the propane tank abandonment as one project.
